Coaching introduction

Coaching is focused delivery of techniques and conversations to facilitate personal learning to enhance personal and work performance.  Coaching is a relatively new profession and there are many views on what it is. At Excellence in People we are clear about what coaching is.

Coaching is;

  • Helping individuals identify specific goals and then reach those goals faster and with ease.
  • Providing client with the tools, perspective and structure to accomplish more through a process of accountability.
  • Creating the time where individuals can reflect on their beliefs and reflect on what is stopping the achievement of goals in the workplace

The Coaching for Results is a participative 2-day programme focusing on developing coaching skills thereby giving managers the confidence to adopt a 'coaching management style'. We look at coaching models and how they can be applied to maximise the manager's potential as well as the potential of each of the individuals on their team.

The core skills of a coach

At Excellence in People we firmly believe that a good coach:

  • Is able to build a coaching relationship - establish rapport and trust and successfully manage boundaries
  • Is a powerful communicator - actively listens, responds to body language and is RESPONSE-ABLE
  • Motivates and encourages - shares the coachee's progress and actions and develops the coachee through appreciative enquiry.
  • Uses a broad range of coaching tools, techniques and models
  • Encourages goal setting, action planning and commitment to change

Throughout the two day programme we will explore and practice the development of these skills, to enable you to coach more effectively in the workplace.

Coaching models and techniques

There are many coaching models and techniques that are used when coaching.  We will explore a number of these during the programme, so that the delegates find the framework that they feel comfortable with and achieves the best results.

Coaching the team

The performance challenges that now face organisations go beyond individual performance. Effective team working is essential to sustain a competitive advantage. Team coaching is a process that not only supports and enables the performance potential of a team to be fulfilled but also increases a team's capacity for self-sustaining development.  We will explore the role that coaching plays in team performance and team development and enables participants to identify and develop the competencies required to be an effective team coach.
