What is Coaching
"Coaching is focused delivery of techniques and conversations to facilitate personal learning to enhance personal and work performance"
Coaching is a relatively new profession and there are many views on what it is. At Excellence in People we are clear about what coaching is and isn't.
Coaching is -:
- Helping people/business identify specific goals and then reach those goals faster and with ease.
- Providing client with the tools, perspective and structure to accomplish more through a process of accountability.
- Creating the time where individuals can reflect on their beliefs and reflect on what is stopping the achievement of personal/business goals
Coaching isn't -:
- Mentoring - mentoring is a process by which an individual relies on another to show them exactly how something is done. Coaching believes that the individual has the resources to achieve excellent results, themselves.
- Counselling or Therapy - whilst some of the techniques may be similar, as coaches, we focus on the future and address workplace performance. We don't necessarily assume that there is a problem in the first place. We look at what is happening now and what needs to happen for performance of the individual to improve?
- Coaching is action and forward thinking orientated. At Excellence in People we explore the blocks that limit success and reframe them so that the passage to achieving your goals creates achievement.
- Having a best friend at work - The question we would ask is - Does your best friend at work give all the feedback that you need to move forward? At Excellence In People we build rapport with coachees so that we can deliver appropriate feedback to enhance performance.
